Analysis of people’s perception on Telangana State Formation Day
On 2nd June, 2014, India got its new state – Telangana! Indeed, it is a historic event in India, which marks the end of decades of turbulent struggle for a separate statehood. The movement of Telangana demanding a separate statehood has so far witnessed innumerable strikes, protests, suicides and disturbances to public life. Telangana is now officially India’s 29th State of Union, under the leadership of K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
On the eve of Telangana formation day, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief, K Chandrasekhar Rao took over as its first chief minister. The occasion of Telangana formation day was celebrated with pink balloons and an hour long firework display starting at midnight and cultural displays highlighting the language and traditions of the state’s people. Hyderabad will serve as the joint capital of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a period of 10 years.
What are the reactions of Indian people on the Telangana state formation? Are they happy for getting a new state or sad for the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh? As can be seen from the analysis below, people tweeted the most about Telangana state formation on 27th May, just a day after the prime minister’s swearing ceremony and on 2nd and 3rd June. Googleplus was the most active on the Telangana State Formation day i.e. on 2nd June as compared to any other day. Facebook too showed a spike in the number of posts on this day about the oath taking ceremony of Telangana’s new chief minister – K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
