Almost half (49 percent) of those 18 to 29 in the US are now users of messaging apps according to new survey data from the Pew Research Center. While 36 percent of the total US smartphone population uses them.

Those findings come from the latest study on Americans’ use of social media. The data were based on telephone interviews conducted in March and April among 1,907 adults.
