The recent draft of National Encryption Policy, by Indian Government’s Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), has received a flak all around, particularly on social media. The draft was so vaguely formed that many groups and pages even interpreted that deleting a message on Whatsapp would be illegal. The government has recalled the draft and has clarified that applications like Whatsapp, Facebook & Twitter would be exempted. Still, confusion persists among the users.
We used our social media management software, myRosys, and analyzed what people actually think about the policy draft.
Social media monitoring around the National Encryption Policy gives the most prominent keywords with the help of words cloud analysis. The report clearly shows that encryption, policy, national, whatsapp, deity, etc. have been the most talked about words.
The sentiment analysis shows the orientation of sentiments of the peoploe talking about the topic. While, it is clear that there is an outcry against the draft, there are also many, who are in favour of the policy.
The Network Noise analysis shows the networks from which the data has been fetched. It also tells us the peak hours and day on which the activity has been the most. The day the policy document was much talked about is around 22nd September, the day this discussion came in public domain.
In the screenshots below, we can see the top positive and negative posts on the social platforms about the policy draft. It clearly depicts the sentiments mix of the people of our country.
