Social Media is a perfect blend of technology and sociology, With approximately 400 Million active present users of Facebook , it is now of the size of Germany . Our unbeatable desire to stay connected with one other is reflected through the phenomenon growth these online giants are going through.
Social media is a word of mouth backed by technology. In this digital era everybody desires more exposure to compete and survive. This exposure is possible only through social presence. Facebook posts, tweets, LinkedIn etc have become an inseparable part of our lives. Today to promote your business, you need not worry about pimping huge investments. Most of the online shopping is ad-hoc. We are going through our social sites when we evident such ads and are not able to resist the shopaholic in us. We tend to remember such videos, ads in a better way and for a longer period of time.
Social Media doesn’t just serve the corporate and entertainment aspect, it plays a very crucial role in case of emergencies. I would quote an example from my life so that you all could connect to it in a better way. I belong to Dehradun, capital of Uttarakhand. As you all know Kedarnath and few other areas of Uttarakhand suffered huge destruction of life and property. At that time funds were raised for the cause by promotion through social media. I have worked for a NGO and currently also working for a social project. Whenever we create some campaign like blood donation, health and hygiene, promotion is done through social media. It helps in making any cause or campaign a huge success. There are innumerable benefits offered by social media . I would take the opportunity to list the most important ones:
• Source of Revenue
• Cost Effective
• Mass exposure
•Brand building
Business like Big Bazaar survives in today’s world because they are able to understand customer needs. Kishore Biyani could promote and create a strong brand image only through the power of social media. Business today takes online surveys and feedbacks to make improvements in the products and services offered by them. They are able to do the correct perception mapping only because of the up to date knowledge about the market and their targeted customers.
Nike has started offering customized shoes online. Customer can chose the colour; design and the shoes will be made as per the order of the customer. Carwale.com is another example of the power of social media. It makes the sellers meet the buyers and offers the best deals to both the parties. The youth today are proud to be social media generation. They are fully exposed to this world through social media and are well connected to their loved ones, recruiters, peers through social media. Like everything on this earth, social media too has its adverse impacts, but if used cautiously, this is the most powerful tool for the generations to come.
