Social media: A channel to online shopping

Beginning with the role of computers to laptops, moving to the influence of the Internet, onward to customer relationship management, and now to the role of social media, sales research is being shuttled into a new technological paradigm. With the event of social media, consumers are rapidly adopting social networking sites, engaging in micro-blogging, and downloading applications for smart phones and computer tablets to enhance their social lives and promote sharing and communication with friends and family.

“There is a direct relationship between the influence from the social sites and online shopping. You may even say that both are dependant variables.� As the influence and the promotion of social sites is increasing, there has been a simultaneous increase in the lifestyle which has led to the change in people behaviour, and the new generation has taken the onus by maintain the status. As the popularity of social media increases there is an increase in awareness about brands, which causes a change in the lifestyles of social media users.

A major factor which affects online shopping the most, is the income label, as employment increases, there is an urgent need of technology gadgets such as mobile phones, which has led to an overall increase in online sales.
Secondly, Electronic products with exquisite features are provided at lower prices.

The Third reason is social involvement, the new generation wants to be at forward in everything, except going for vote, though they do go for online polls on irrelevant topics. As the times are changing, everyone is switching to smartphones which people now attach to a social status.

Another factor is the “Home Delivery� concept which is the biggest reason that has motivated the young generation to go online. New shopping sites which provide schemes such as home delivery and 30 days return guarantee are able to attract more traffic to their site.

The social sites are also playing the role of a channel through which the Ecommerce sites are advertising and getting advantage. An online shopping site which provides facility in each segment from apparel to ration materials like: Shopkirana.com, Stophere.com etc These sites are for niches like StopHere.com is for mainly Rajasthani culture etc. Each Ecommerce store has some USP (unique selling proposition) like Flipkart is good at selling electronic products, Amazon is the best when it comes to Books, Jabong for Shoes etc. Each of these portals is great in some segment. These online shopping sites are helping retailers connecting with their target audience so that they can sell their products.

Now a days the younger generation are much more updated with fashion as compared to news, they know the clothes, Salman khan was wearing and what shoes were used by Akshay kumar. As these sites are advertising in large quantity. And the best place for any Ecommerce website is social media where people can communicate and they can get each other’s opinion towards a particular product. They can suggest to others and can even gift it to others. Beyond simply using social media technology for updating pictures and posting status updates, consumers and members of society in general have found that social media applications can actually empower them when considering the flow of information and can help in changing in their lifestyles.
